Vermont House of Reps passed GMO Labeling Law
Great News!
On "May 10th, 2013, the Vermont House of Representatives passed H.112, a GMO labeling law, by a vote of 99-42. This is the furthest any GMO labeling bill has made it through the legislative process in the US."~~AboutGMO.comEven if you don't live in Vermont this is something we all need to help support and talk about. Why? Companies that use GMO’s are not going to want to make labels for just Vermont. It will create more work for production and shipping to have labels just for Vermont, especially when so many states have this in voting circles right now. This is a wonderful step for Non GMO supporters, but it still needs to pass Senate, which will take place January 2014.
We want to know what is in our food. So many people are starting to really care about what they are eating and labels help us make conscious decisions. Whether we are looking at sugars, fats, calories, gluten, we want to know what we are eating. Many consumers are not going to care, and that is ok because Food is a freedom, but that freedom should come with the ability to know what's in the food we might be consuming.
I think we need to have GMO's Labels, yes, but we also need to educate ourselves, friends, and family, on GMO's. Labeling will help those with digestive sensitivities, allergies, lowered immune systems, along with other illness, to know if they can or can't have that item. Still many people do not even know what Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are. Start today to educate yourself to help make conscious decisions for your family and yourself.
Help us to spread the word to everyone. What is GMO? If you don't know please see this list of main GMO foods and the risk they take on your health.

Drinking More Water
Each year roughly about 24,000 new cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed in the United States! Wow that is a lot of cases to be popping up each year, what is even more staggering is about 100,000 people die each year due to the condition. You may be asking how can you keep this from happening to you. To start you need to cut the processed sodas and sugary drinks and drink more water.
Your kidneys are working every minute of the day to help process out waste created by the body.
Metabolic Waste Excretions Using Kidneys
Ammonia- Removal of amino acids in the liver.Uric Acid- Nucleotide breakdown from the liver.
Urochrome- Hemoglobin breakdown from liver.
Water- Food and waste breakdown along with inorganic food and water.
You kidneys are working to eliminate waste from the blood, which helps to regulate body water concentration, regulates blood pressure, and maintains a constant blood pH. So much more is happening then just relieving your bladder. You are constantly consuming food and beverages, while you digestion works to breakdown useable sources of nutrients, it separates what can be used and what is waste. The waste then goes to its correct department to be eliminated through lungs, skin, liver, kidneys, or intestines.
How does Urination Work?
Urine is produced by the kidneys and is stimulated by the bladder to be released. You need about 200-300 milliliters to initiate the elimination process. When the bladder fills it stretches and then sends messages via the spinal cord that cause the smooth muscles to contract in the bladder and to release. These impulses also travel to the brain to give warning it time to go using neural pathways that allow us to suppress urination until we can get to a bathroom. As a baby or small child this contraction happens naturally until we learn to suppress the impulses for only as long as we can make it to a bathroom. On a side note, the external sphincter can sometimes be damaged in both men and woman, during surgeries and childbirth. This is why with some woman when we sneeze, cough, or do jumping jacks, we might leak. This is actually very common and why exercise is so important before and after birth. For men the condition can happen due to an injury from prostate surgery. This condition is known as urinary incontinence, when the muscles are damaged or weakened.

One of our favorite healthy snacks is yogurt. It is a great source of protein, calcium, and a digestive aid. We like to joke that yogurt is just like ice-cream but healthier, and the kids love it. Japanese Miso Soup Along with Pictures from Trip to Tokyo, Japan
Japanese Miso Soup
1 bunch of Organic Green Onions
1/2 Package of Firm Organic Tofu, diced in small cubes
3 cups Organic Vegetable Broth
1 Package of Organic Soba Noodles
1/2 cup Organic kale
1 sheet of Toasted Seaweed
1 tbsp. miso paste
In a medium pot I heat 2 cup of water. Once the water starts to boil I add in the Soba noodles, with NO salt or oil. These Noodles cook in 4 minutes so one cook, you drain and rinse. In the Cookbook, they recommend rinsing and then placing in cold water. Set aside.
In my large Ozeri Wok, I add in Vegetable broth, tofu, kale, green onions, and seaweed and bring to a boil. Once soup is at a boil I then turn the heat to low and add in the miso paste. You do not want to boil the miso in the soup because it will not taste as good. Then drain the noodles and add into the soup. The kids loved it, and we added a little Braggs Liquid Aminos for our soy sauce.
Cooked Kale is low in Cholesterol, good source of Protein, Vitamin E, A, C, K, and B6, Calcium, Potassium, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Folate, Iron, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, good source of Dietary Fiber.
When my husband travels he always brings me home a new cook book. I love exploring the dishes and traditions of other cultures. In Japan, the main staple is Seafood. My husband has a very adventurous spirit and loves to try what some may say are daring dishes. He enjoyed raw squids, frozen raw horse meat, traditional Ramón, shrimp, sea vegetables of many verity, dried fish, cooked whole fishes, and rice's.
Would you like to see more Japanese Dishes?
These where not made by me, these were from my husband's travels. I will be hoping to work on some of these soon. The trick is getting the freshest seafood, which is difficult in Arizona.

This is a couple different raw fish mixed with onions and other herbs.

This was a group dinner of sushi a verity of sushi. My husband said that the squids were very sweet and especially delicious.
This one just one of the sides they enjoyed along with the whole fish below, raw clams. Presentation is an art of Japanese cooking. This is something I am working work.
This is was a normal breakfast choice with fish, miso soup, seaweed vegetables, rice, egg, and bacon.
Whole fish. It's pretty interesting how they gut the fish before cooking it. In the cookbook above, they show me how to use chopsticks to stick down the mouth and twist over and over until the gills and guts are detached and then you pull them out. It's pretty interesting and I hope to try this with trout this summer on our fishing trip.

By far the best cup of Ramón noodle my husband said he has ever had. The cookbook has a recipe to make as well and I hope the kids are open to try the authentic version.
Boiled Shrimp. While this looks pretty easy to make it's the sauces that come with each dish that make the dishes so amazing.
While in Japan the Cherry Blossoms where amazing, beautiful, and everywhere.

These where taken at the Imperial Palace, Japan! What a great adventure to get to experience all these amazing taste and to see such wonderful sites!

Benefits of Cooked Kale
Because this meal has kale and seaweed there are a lot of great minerals in the broth.Cooked Kale is low in Cholesterol, good source of Protein, Vitamin E, A, C, K, and B6, Calcium, Potassium, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Folate, Iron, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, good source of Dietary Fiber.
Benefits of Roasted Seaweed
Roasted Seaweed nutritional benefits include Vitamin B6, B12, Iodine, and also fiber. B6 in both the kale and seaweed can boost bran function and concentration, while helping to balance hormones and anxiety. Iodine helps your thyroid function correctly. This is something we miss in most traditional meals, and using table salt is not a good substitute for iodine. If you are not a big fan of sushi, try sneaking it in to dishes like this, and stews. This can be a substitute for taste salt in almost any cooked dish. Sometime, I like to pick up a seaweed crushed seasoning, that I add over dishes to boost its nutrition without all the seaweed taste. You can always reduce the amount and add as you go. The B12 found in the Kale and Seaweed helps to form red blood cells and boost immunes system. When my husband travels he always brings me home a new cook book.
