Summer Adventure Days Week 1

Now that Summer is here I want to relax but keep the kids entertained.  One day every week we will have a different adventure day.  This week we went to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. 

We packed our lunches, snacks, plenty of water, and sunscreen!  It was actually a very pleasant and breezy day, but we always protect our skin.  The day was filled with laughter, nature trails, seeing lots of Arizona's wildlife, and making memories.

 We stopped at the Ancient Arizona section to do a little digging and finding out more about dinosaurs and the items used at dig sites.









We then headed into a Cave to learn about bats, gems, and more.

Throughout the park we observed Arizona wildlife.  Here is my friend the Bobcat!  Poor guy was being tormented by a pesky squirrel just out of reach.

At the end of the day the kids all finished their Tracking Animals book.  They received a certificate and card stating they were animal trackers.  They absolutely loved them!

A day at Sonora Desert Museum

Spring has sprung in the desert!

(So has allergy season) 

We spent a wonderful day out in the beautiful crisp Arizona weather. On Saturday a cold spell come through so the temperatures were a little cool for me, but it was a wonderful experience.  The day was filled with natural hiking walks, cactus gardens, animals local to AZ, and watching the Raptors in flight.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things of Sonora Desert Museum, and wanted to take our friends visiting from TN.  This was the first time their children had seen the desert and they wanted them to see some of the wildlife up close.  I was pleasantly surprised with our experience!  We saw Big-horned sheep, raptor birds, beavers, otters, brown bear, wolves, coyotes, rattle snakes, Gila monsters, prairie dogs, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, roadrunners, javelins, frogs, and more.  All animals where in natural habitats and still easy to see.  All throughout the park you could see not only animals but plant life special  to Arizona.  My favorites were the cactus and hummingbird gardens.  When we got to the Museum, we picked up our "Tracking Animals Guide" for kids.  This was filled with cool facts, information, and a place to stamp the footprint of the animals that were located throughout the park.  This was kind of a search at every habitat to see if there was a stamp featured.  Over all the day was fun filled and I can't wait to go back.

 

This was so much fun looking for all the stamp locations.  It was confusing at times because the stamp featured at the location was not always the print of the animal exhibit.  The kids had to so some investigating.

We never leave anywhere with out fruits, vegetables, and crackers.  The kids need constant energy recharged.     

In the cactus garden was a "creeping devil".  Never seen this before, but very cool.
