I love to drink tea and coffee.  There is something about a nice warm beverage that is soothing to my mornings and afternoons.

This month I tried a new beverage from Chai-Direct.com.  They carry a huge assortment of beverages to meet your needs and likes.  I personally love Chai and the Sattwa Chai is awesome.  This is a concentrate so you mix with equal parts milk or milk substitute.  You can drink it warm or cold and it is a great change from coffee.  I can't tell you if I like it better cold or hot, because I enjoyed them equally.  We are in the desert and the afternoon cup cold was very pleasant.  Having a warmed cup during my morning routine was a great start to my day.

Kombucha Wonder Drink Review, Yummy Fermented Teas

What is Kombucha Wonder Drink?  Kombucha is a sparkling fermented tea.  In our house it is also know as a natural soda.  While some Konbucha drinks are said to be made with fermented mushrooms, Kombucha Wonder Drink is not.  Kombucha requires a starter kit culture, similar to making yogurt, to turn tea into this delicious drink.  The cellulose cultures come from Nepal, China and Siberia, some dating back thousands of years.  Very neat how they have to use cultures dating back so far to make this wonder drink.

Kombucha Wonder Drink sent me three bottle beverage of Asian Pear & ginger, Cherry Classic, and Niagra Grape.  They sent me two of the 8.4 ounce cans as well.

We like to pack out lunches and we are often found picnicking before some of our activities.  I like to think of this as our version of fast food!  We had a picnic as a family before one of our activities and we enjoyed  the Niagra Grape and the Asian Pear.  It was a delicious refreshing beverage and perfect for our outing.  The kids loved it and thought it was a soda.  The drinks have some carbonation that fizzes like soda, making this a healthier choice than commercial drinks. 

I enjoyed the Cherry Classic all by myself one afternoon and made it my favorite of the bunch!  This was a fizzy and energizing beverage perfect for a hot afternoon.  I enjoyed the Traditional and Green Tea variety in can as well.  Normally I prefer to not drink out of any metals containers, but these are a nice selection for those that like to drink on the run.  I found the glass bottles to be easy to carry and prefer to purchase the glass variety.   I was super excited to find that my Sprouts Market carries Kombucha Wonder Drink.  While doing my weekly shopping I grabbed a few more bottles to enjoy! 

A little history of Kombucha

"The Soviets experience is part of a large documentary evidence that the beverage made from kombucha fermentation of tea and sugar is, indeed, a dramatic immune system booster and body detoxifier." Tom Valentine, Search for Health.

You can pretty much think of Kombucha as a delicious tonic made from yeast, sugar, and tea.  Usually I stay away from sugars, but in this case they are used in the fermentation process and pretty much cooked off to a very low amount.  The yeast (bacteria) act on the sugar and tea to produce not only lactic acid and acetic acid, but a detoxifying substance called glucuronic acid.  The glucuronic acid is normally produced in the liver, but with the normal American diet being over taxed with toxins and chemicals, a little help in kombuchas glucuronic acid will aid in the bodies natural detoxification.  We all can use a little help here unless you eat a complete organic diet.

Beanfields nonGMO Chips Review and Giveaway

I have been talk a lot about NonGMO products and lunches.  I am excited to tell you about one of my favorite chips company, Beanfields.  They are a part of the nonGMO project, vegan, and gluten free!  Not to mention they taste great!  I was sent these chips to try and see how the kids enjoyed them in their lunches.

These delicious chips are loaded with black beans, navy beans, and long grain rice.  We got to try all 5 chip varieties and I loved them all.  Growing up I was a huge Doritos fan, and so are my kids.  We hardly ever buy chips besides the Organic Corn chips from Costco.  Its nice to now have a variety to chose from.  Beanfields chips have twice as much protein and fiber as most tortilla chips.  I wanted to see how the kids like them, so I threw in a few for their lunches, and of course they loved them.  They have a great crunch and they are not an empty calorie food.

 I have to say that my personal favorite was the Pico De Gallo.  It had a ton of flavor that was great by it self and with our home made spicy salsa.  Yummy.  The next favorite for me was the Salt and Pepper.  The family really enjoyed these, and I enjoy that they were a healthier version of snack food for them.  Everything in moderation, but this is definitely a chip that everyone can enjoy, without and digestive setbacks.

To the right is a picnic we had before Gymnastic last week.  This is our ideas of FAST FOOD!  Great tasting, filling, loaded with protein and fiber.  The chips were the Beanfields Sea Salt, and the kids devoured them.

FunBites Review and Upcoming Giveaway

I had a lot of fun with my FunBites mold.  I got the chance to review the green square.  As you know I think are food choices make a big difference in our energy, moods, and concentration.   That is why I like to send the kids off right to be prepared for school and all that comes up.  Packing their lunches are a big priory as well.  I usually spend about 40 minutes in the morning making breakfast and packing lunches for 6.  Yes, that includes Mom and Dad in having a healthy breakfast and lunch.

Every parent that packs a lunch for yourself and your kids knows that the variety sometimes gets stagnant.  Presentation can play a huge role in make the same foods exciting again.  I was excited to review this because I hoped it would help me fix a problem I have had with my youngest two.  They have been asking for lunchables.  They never really knew what these were until they saw the kids at school eating them.  Now these may look fun to a 5 and 7 year old, but they lack in nutrition.  I made some of their lunches with a luncheable feel.  I cut up cheese, cucumbers, bread, and cantaloupe.  I them put these in little containers of their lunch box and they got to build their own sandwiches and sides.  I had a little container of yogurt and peanut butter for the sandwiches.  They made cucumber and yogurt bites and peanut butter its.

This is the lunch Gabby made today with her cute pieces.  She is enjoying the fun of making your own combinations.

We  made pancakes and I let the kids cute up their own pancakes.  I love that this food cutter can be used by kids.  They won't cute themselves and they can have a ton of fun.

We don't do the cheese sticks.  I buy organic cheese and have to cut and slice myself. Here is a picture of the cheese that I sliced and then let my 8 year old cut into the pieces.  We then put the cheese squares in a air tight container and had ready for snacks and to throw in lunches.  She had a blast cutting these since mom never lets her use a knife, yet.

We cute all types of fruit, cheeses, breads, pancakes, and a few vegetables.  The cucumbers where easy and I loved how fast I chopped them for salads.

How does it work?
You have two pieces.  The mold that cuts the item is placed over your food and rocked back and forth.  Once you have went down to the cutting board you then use the smaller mold to push out the food.
These are preferred hand-wash but can be thrown in the dishwasher as well.  I have personally only hand-washed and have had no trouble with it.   My kids have enjoyed this and I am probably going to get the pink hearts mold as well.  I love to have fun with food and make healthy choices just as fun as the processed one.  Who needs lunchables when I can make my own healthier versions right at home and the kids still love it.  Whats better is that these molds are BPA FREE!  No toxic plastics touching your child's food!
