Microwaving destroys benefits of Vitamin B12?

The microwave has become a normal everyday tool in the kitchen, but at what cost?  Research is showing that the microwave destroys vitamins and alters the nutrient makeup of foods.

Vitamin B12 is needed for nourishing the nerves and is found to be helpful with MS, Bell's Palsy, and Parkinson disease.  B12 also plays a huge role in protein conversion and is needed to prevent anemia.  Some studies has even shown B12 to be one of the few items to have an impact on damaged nerves.  With all the ways this amazing vitamin is needed and helps, we do not want to destroy it by using the microwave.

Foods B12 are found in listed below.
Sea Vegetables: Kelp, Dulse, and Nori.
Soybeans
Meats
Eggs
Seafood
Dairy Products

Try to use your microwave less and help your body to absorb the B12 in your foods.

  4. I remember when I was a student at DLI my Chinese teacher, who was watching me microwave oatmeal one morning, told me that she thought it was interesting that Americans like to microwave everything. She said in Europe and Asia they don't use them as much because research showed that it leeched nutrients from the food. I always wanted to look more into it and never did! Thanks for the post I think I'll research this more!

    1. I think I am also going to post a little more about the dangers of Microwave use, it has become such a common use here in the US, and it distorts all foods not just those listed above. Thanks for stopping by Savannah!

  6. I use the microwave to defrost meat. I guess I shouldn't be doing that? Or is it just with cooking food?

    1. Pretty much anytime you use the microwave for defrosting, reheating, and cooking. "In short, microwaves distort the molecular structure of the foods. They destroy much of the nutrients and cause many other problems with the immune system over a period of time." 1. There has been little research on the negative effects of microwaved foods, but the little amount pretty much all shows a distortion of all nutrients.

  8. Thanks for this. I really have to use the microwave less. We have a toaster oven, so I use that a lot, but sometimes nothing is easier than pushing a few buttons...but I certainly don't want to lose any nutrients. Gotta do some more research; thanks for the links!

  13. Thanks so much for sharing! I think the more that people are educated the better off we will be. Things have been done certain ways for so long that people do not even question the safety anymore. I really appreciate you putting this out there!
